How to be a Successful Computer Consultant

In the 5 years since I wrote the first edition of this book, the consulting world, both in general and for me, has continued to rapidly evolve. Many trends in American business, such as the downsizing of U.S. corporations, the emphasis on entrepreneurial ventures, and new developments and technologies in the computer industry, have continued to promote a promising and fruitful environment for computer consultants.

I have met a number of people over the past 5 years who moonlight in computer consulting, contract software development, and other areas mentioned in this book. Some of these people, including me at one point, have joined small consulting firms in conjunction with their own entrepreneurial activities or have "gone solo" in the consulting profession.

This second edition of How to Be a Successful Computer Consultant adds much of the insight and experience I have gained over the past 5 years. I am sure the next 5 years will be just as dynamic as the last 5 have been.
In addition to expressing gratitude to the people so recognized in the first edition's preface, I would like to thank Ann Mergo for her assistance in supporting existing clients' needs during times I have been involved elsewhere.
